📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe vector comparison functions now use PostgreSQL array operators directly. The ordering function checks equality first, then less-than, and returns the corresponding comparison result. ChangesArray comparison functions

the current fcinfo instead of invoking array_eq and array_lt through

the operator-class ordering comparison in one call.

Fixed in 337474b. All seven comparison wrappers now forward the original fcinfo to PostgreSQL's array comparison functions, including btarraycmp for ordering, preserving flinfo and its comparison cache. Validation compiled the actual before/after wrapper bodies against PostgreSQL 18 headers and loaded them into an isolated PostgreSQL 18.6 backend. The original equality wrapper crashed that backend; the corrected wrappers passed 64 array-pair comparisons across all seven operators, including empty arrays, unequal lengths, NaN, null elements, lower bounds and dimensions. This validates the native wrappers; it is not a full DeepLake extension build or index integration test. git diff --check also passed. |

Not mergeable as designed. These seven functions are the comparator of our own access method: CREATE OPERATOR CLASS deeplake_vector_ops DEFAULT FOR TYPE float4[] USING deeplake_index … FUNCTION 1 deeplake_vector_compare. They are not a btree opclass, and the element-wise all() semantics (vector_eq = all(l == r)) are what deeplake_index expects. Forwarding to btarraycmp/array_eq changes what equality and ordering mean for that index, so the PR trades one contract for another rather than fixing a defect. Your isolated-backend crash on the equality wrapper is a separate claim about NULL elements in pg_to_nd; we will check that in our tree. Closing this one is fine.
|
Follow-up on the crash claim: in the current source pg_to_nd_typed rejects arrays with NULL elements before any comparison runs (ARR_HASNULL → clean error inside pg_try), so the equality wrapper cannot read packed data as dense. The crash you reproduced is against the mirror's older conversion, not the current tree. |

Closing per review feedback. The reviewer notes that deeplake_vector_ops is a custom index operator class with element-wise all() semantics, so forwarding to PostgreSQL array comparison functions changes its contract. The separate NULL-element crash claim needs current-version evidence and is not part of this PR. |
Use PostgreSQL array comparison functions for the float4[] operators and their support comparator. This gives the operator class a consistent total ordering, including PostgreSQL array dimension and element ordering behavior, instead of the prior component-wise
