Problem

The style binding accepts an array of fallback values — the documented "multiple values" form (docs):

<div :style="{ display: ['-webkit-box', '-ms-flexbox', 'flex'] }"></div>

The client runtime already handles it: patchStyle → setStyle iterates the array and assigns every entry, so the browser keeps the last value it supports. stringifyStyle only accepted string | number, so every path that goes through it dropped the declaration.

SSR (ssrRenderStyle):

await renderToString(
  h('div', { style: { display: ['-webkit-box', '-ms-flexbox', 'flex'] } }),
)
// before: <div style=""></div>
// after:  <div style="display:-webkit-box;display:-ms-flexbox;display:flex;"></div>

The element is rendered without the style at all, and the hydration style check is check-only, so it also stays unstyled after hydration until the binding changes.

Hydration check — hydration.ts stringifies the client binding with the same helper, so when the markup does contain the fallbacks it reports a bogus mismatch on every render:

Hydration style mismatch on <div>
  - rendered on server: style="display:-webkit-box;display:-ms-flexbox;display:flex;"
  - expected on client: style=""

stringifyStatic (compiler-dom) drops the style of a hoisted static element in the same way.

Change

stringifyStyle renders each entry of an array value in order, skipping entries that aren't renderable, which is the same declaration list the client applies. NormalizedStyle is widened to the shape patchStyle already accepts.

Tests

All four new cases fail on main (5 failed), and pass with the patch:

  • packages/shared/__tests__/normalizeProp.spec.ts — stringification, including numbers, null entries and custom properties
  • packages/server-renderer/__tests__/ssrRenderAttrs.spec.ts — ssrRenderStyle
  • packages/server-renderer/__tests__/render.spec.ts — full output for both renderToString and the stream/pipe paths
  • packages/runtime-core/__tests__/hydration.spec.ts — no bogus style mismatch for fallback arrays

Verification

  • pnpm vitest run --project unit --project unit-jsdom — 3892 passed, 6 skipped
  • pnpm check, pnpm lint, pnpm format-check — clean

#15864, #14973 and #15641 touch the same helper, but are about different concerns (vendor-prefixed keys, NaN/Infinity, top-level ; splitting). This one only affects array values.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Style properties can accept arrays of string or numeric fallback values, rendered as repeated CSS declarations in order. Empty strings and explicit null or undefined entries clear earlier fallbacks for that property; later values are retained.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Hydration now recognizes matching server-rendered fallback styles without reporting a style mismatch.

A style property can be bound to an array of fallback values, e.g.
`{ display: ['-webkit-box', '-ms-flexbox', 'flex'] }`. This is a
documented form of the style binding: the browser keeps the last value it
supports. The client runtime already iterates such an array in
`patchStyle`, so the binding works when rendered on the client.

`stringifyStyle` only handled string and number values, so every path
that goes through it lost the declaration:

- `ssrRenderStyle` emitted `style=""`, so the server rendered element has
  no style at all. The hydration style check is check-only, so the
  element also stays unstyled after hydration until the binding changes.
- The hydration check stringifies the client binding with the same helper,
  so if the markup does contain the fallbacks it reports a bogus
  "Hydration style mismatch" on every render.
- `stringifyStatic` (compiler-dom) dropped the style of a hoisted static
  element in the same way.

Render the entries of an array value in order, so all paths produce the
same declaration list as the client.

📝 Walkthrough

Style properties now accept arrays of strings and numbers. Serialization emits repeated declarations in array order. Empty strings and explicitly present nullish entries clear earlier declarations for that property. Tests cover shared serialization, server rendering, static stringification, and hydration.

Changes: Style fallback serialization

Layer / File(s) Summary
Normalize and stringify style arrays
packages/shared/src/normalizeProp.ts, packages/shared/__tests__/normalizeProp.spec.ts
NormalizedStyle accepts arrays of strings and numbers. stringifyStyle emits valid array values as declarations and handles empty strings and explicitly present nullish entries. Tests cover declaration order, clearing, and sparse arrays.
Verify rendered and hydrated styles
packages/server-renderer/__tests__/render.spec.ts, packages/server-renderer/__tests__/ssrRenderAttrs.spec.ts, packages/compiler-dom/__tests__/transforms/stringifyStatic.spec.ts, packages/runtime-core/__tests__/hydration.spec.ts
Server-rendering tests check ordered fallback declarations. Static stringification tests cover empty and null entries. Hydration tests check fallback arrays and confirm no style mismatch warning for the tested cases.
