Explicitly select bosh-agent-index/main for agent publication by changing the Metalink source URI from git+ssh://git@github.com:cloudfoundry/bosh-agent-index.git// to git+ssh://git@github.com/cloudfoundry/bosh-agent-index.git//#main. Standard SSH URL syntax lets the Metalink parser recognize the fragment; its SCP-style parser would treat it as part of the path. The explicit fragment targets main for writes/rebase and selects a new backend clone-cache key instead of reusing a clone associated with the former default.

The index default is still master during preparation. This source PR can merge first, but operators must apply it only after main exists, with index publishers coordinated across the native rename so an old in-flight writer cannot recreate master. Preserve the existing release version, resource name, mirroring and credentials.

Metalink v0.5.0 Git backend uses a URI fragment as its branch selector. Its implementation derives its clone-cache directory from the raw URI and omits --branch/the pull branch when the fragment is empty. The resource source depends on v0.5.0. The URI parser requires standard SSH URL form for a branch fragment; the SCP-style form captures it as part of the path. These source facts do not verify which resource image is deployed.

Validation: git diff --check and an exact parsed comparison passed; the only publisher config change is the Metalink source URI. The actual Metalink URI parser confirmed the normalized SSH URL selects main, and a read-only git ls-remote verified the derived GitHub SSH endpoint. A local bare-Git fixture using the backend's Git operations confirmed a cached fragmentless reader follows the renamed default and an explicitly selected main writer publishes to main without recreating master. Modern strict offline pipeline validation fails on the same existing top-level vars field before and after this edit. No resource container or live pipeline was exercised.

Deployed Concourse reconfiguration and runtime verification belong to the operator. This work performs no pipeline pause/unpause, configuration, resource checks, job triggers, or configure-script execution.

Walkthrough

The bosh-agent-index resource URI in the pipeline now includes the #main fragment to select the main branch.

The pipeline explicitly publishes to main. It is mergeable with coordinated deployment after main exists; applying it earlier can interrupt index checks and publication.

Explanation

The title "Publish the agent index explicitly to main" matches the main change: the bosh-agent-index Metalink source URI now carries the #main fragment, so the agent index is published explicitly to the main branch. It is short, specific, and states the primary change.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description clearly explains the URI change, rationale, risks, cutover conditions, related context, validation performed, and operator responsibilities. It does not use the repository template headings and does not explicitly provide release-note wording, a breaking-change response, team tags, or AI review status, but the core required information is present.

Create main in bosh-agent-index before you apply this pipeline change.

The bosh-agent-index resource uses the Metalink Git source with the //#main fragment. In the Metalink v0.5.0 source, the check and the put at ci/pipeline.yml:982 both use the configured branch. They clone with --branch main or pull main, and they never create the branch. Until main exists in bosh-agent-index, both operations fail. This applies to the resource build that uses Metalink v0.5.0, which the metalink-repository-resource commit e5a15f8 requires. The pipeline references that image without a tag, so confirm that the deployed image uses that build.

Ensure the `main` branch exists in `bosh-agent-index` before applying the `uri`
change that selects `//#main`; also verify the deployed Metalink resource image
uses the v0.5.0 build required by `metalink-repository-resource` commit
`e5a15f8`.
