Welcome to The AI Alliance GitHub Organization

The AI Alliance GitHub organization is the place to discover, use, and contribute to our open-source projects for generative AI.

The AI Alliance is a non-profit organization that supports the success of essential open technology and research projects in the AI community. We are dedicated to the benefit of AI for all of society and all cultures.

Project Tapestry

Tapestry Logo

The AI Alliance launched Project Tapestry to build a collaborative foundation for open and sovereign AI. Project Tapestry is building an open-source platform designed to enable globally-federated development of frontier, open models and other AI tools, while preserving sovereignty, local control, and long-term independence.

Why this matters: People will not use models that under perform on their language, culture, and domains of interest. Countries, enterprises, and individuals need AI infrastructure they own and control — with guaranteed data residency, the right to exit the collaboration as they see fit, and the ability to operate independently, for example to build locally-customized models for their needs. Tapestry addresses these goals simultaneously: sovereignty is the performance strategy, not a trade-off against it.

More details are here and the Project Tapestry GitHub repo.

Other Alliance and Affiliated Projects

We have built a portfolio of projects in various areas. They are indicated with the AI Alliance icon icon in these pages. We also describe notable independent projects that our members have developed, which fill key needs in the AI ecosystem.

We projects welcome new contributors. Each project README has specific details. See also our project governance policies.

The projects are grouped into the following categories:

Open Models and Data Agents and Applications Safety, Governance, and Education
The foundation of our open model and data initiatives is Project Tapestry, described above. We also other model and data projects we have worked on. The Agents and Applications are open-source projects and work groups that cover the broader AI application stack, including agents, knowledge bases, etc. Successful use of AI requires meeting requirements for safety and governance, as well as the expertise required to use AI technologies effectively. This collection of projects addresses various aspects of trust, safety, and general evaluation, as well as education.
