docs(concepts): add a Concepts section with SVG diagrams - #940
Adds a Concepts section to the docs, as proposed and agreed in #689. The concept pages used to sit under "Design and develop" next to contributor design docs, and the most visible ones were only a few lines long. This PR groups the user-facing pages under Concepts, fills the gaps, and redraws the diagrams as SVG (#437).
Sidebar: "What is HAMi?" moves to the top of the docs sidebar. Get started and Concepts are collapsed by default. let’s see what everyone thinks.

The source code checks, the diagrams, and the initial drafts of the new text were done with the assistance of Claude Code. I reviewed and edited the result myself.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Documentation
Expanded and reorganized English and Chinese guides covering HAMi architecture, GPU scheduling, monitoring, device sharing and isolation, GPU drivers, and device plugins versus DRA.
Added practical explanations of resource requests, scheduling policies, metrics, and runtime limits, with links to related setup and reference material.
Added and updated diagrams, including light- and dark-theme versions, to illustrate GPU workflows, sharing, isolation, and ecosystem integrations.
Updated the documentation navigation to group core concepts and background topics more clearly.

Walkthrough
The documentation update reorganizes the Concepts section and expands English and Chinese coverage of HAMi architecture, device APIs, scheduling, sharing, isolation, observability, and GPU background topics. It also adds themed diagrams and handling for paired light- and dark-theme images.
Changes: Core concepts and navigation
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Introduction and navigation docs/core-concepts/introduction.md, i18n/zh/docusaurus-plugin-content-docs/current/core-concepts/introduction.md, sidebars.js, i18n/zh/docusaurus-plugin-content-docs/current.json, static/img/docs/{en,zh}/core-concepts/hami-before-after*.drawio
The introduction pages explain whole-GPU allocation, link to related guides, and summarize the HAMi workflow. Navigation reorganizes the Concepts section and adds the GPU allocation comparison illustrations.
Architecture and device APIs docs/core-concepts/architecture.md, docs/core-concepts/device-plugin-and-dra.md, i18n/zh/docusaurus-plugin-content-docs/current/core-concepts/{architecture,device-plugin-and-dra}.md, static/img/docs/{en,zh}/core-concepts/{hami-architecture-flow*,device-plugin-vs-dra*}.drawio
Architecture guides describe Pod admission, GPU selection, device-plugin injection, and HAMi-Core enforcement. Device-plugin and DRA guides compare device information flows, describe HAMi-DRA resource claims, and list its requirements.
Scheduling, sharing, and isolation docs/core-concepts/scheduling.md, docs/key-features/{device-sharing,device-resource-isolation}.md, i18n/zh/docusaurus-plugin-content-docs/current/{core-concepts/scheduling.md,key-features/device-sharing.md,key-features/device-resource-isolation.md}, static/img/docs/{en,zh}/core-concepts/{scheduling-policies*,device-sharing*,sharing-compare*,memory-isolation*,compute-isolation*,resource-isolation*}.drawio
The guides document card filtering and scheduling policies, GPU request budgets and defaults, and HAMi-Core memory and compute enforcement. The illustrations show the related allocation, policy, and enforcement flows.
The guides distinguish scheduler allocation metrics from container and host usage metrics, document their endpoints and data sources, and describe reasons for differences between the values.
GPU stack and driver background docs/core-concepts/{gpu-stack,gpu-driver}.md, i18n/zh/docusaurus-plugin-content-docs/current/core-concepts/{gpu-stack,gpu-driver}.md, static/img/docs/{en,zh}/core-concepts/{gpu-stack*,gpu-driver*,gpu-chain-*}.drawio
The pages describe the GPU stack and driver modules, and replace several Mermaid diagrams with themed illustrations of GPU layers and call chains.
Image handling pairs adjacent light- and dark-theme variants for figure numbering and styling. CSS hides each variant when it does not match the active theme.

the HAMi vGPU allocation count, not the number of physical GPUs; clarify that
requesting two allocates two vGPU units.
- Line 38: Clarify the VRAM total rule in the device-sharing documentation:
state that it applies when nvidia.deviceMemoryScaling is set to its default
value of 1, and note that higher scaling values allow virtual-memory
overcommitment.

clarify that all container memory must fit within the card’s physical memory
when `nvidia.deviceMemoryScaling` is set to its default value of 1, and qualify
how values above 1 affect that limit.
- Line 25: Update the `nvidia.com/gpu` table description to define the requested
value as a count of HAMi vGPU allocations, not physical GPUs, so allocation
units are clear.

HAMi uses a specific color code,
and there should be a consistent font so that the entire project maintains a cohesive look.
Therefore, using images that follow these rules, rather than fancy LLM-generated images, will help maintain consistency.
Also, the repo is constantly being updated.
I think providing code, rather than just images, makes it easier to update the visuals… for example, in mermaid format, etc.
But I’m not sure how that would look.
I think it’s important that all visuals comply with these guidelines.

During the last Chinese community meeting, we discussed the website and HAMi README file:
Simplify the homepage to introduce HAMi in 1–2 minutes. Improve architecture and GPU virtualization docs, add Architecture and Background sections, and convert diagrams to SVG.
Add feature compatibility labels for HAMi, DRA, and Volcano, and improve documentation, especially Volcano integration.
Streamline the README to highlight device orchestration and topology-aware scheduling. Update the event list or link to the website.
@rootsongjc Thanks! These diagrams are SVGs generated directly by Claude Opus 5.5, so each .svg file in static/img/docs/{en,zh}/core-concepts/ is its own source and can be edited as text.
I'm now updating them to the color palette in the brand guide (#955), and adding a dark version so they match the site's dark theme. Here is a preview of two of them:
@moezdil I left a review on #955 about dark mode. I'll finish the remaining diagrams once the guide is settled.

Oh, I thought there would be a interpret layer which can be read and edit by human, such as Mermaid, Drawio, OmniGraffle and so on.
@rootsongjc I had also tried Mermaid with a HAMi theme for these, and the auto layout couldn't get close to this look.
An idea: the brand guide in #955 already gives the colors and fonts, and its "For hand-written SVG" part could also cover how to draw them: layout rules, a few light/dark pairs as examples, and a small check for colors and fonts. Then the guide plus the SVG would be that layer. To change a diagram, you describe the change to any mainstream model with the guide, and get the same style back. The final layout still needs a human look. WDYT?

To be more concrete: we could package the guide as a skill, so any mainstream model can load it and draw or edit HAMi diagrams in the same style. The skill could also have the model check the HAMi source repo before drawing, so components and call paths match the code.
All 18 diagrams now have draw.io sources. Each .drawio file sits next to its exported SVG in static/img/docs/{en,zh}/core-concepts/, so a word or a box can be changed in draw.io without an LLM.
Each diagram has a dark version, referenced as foo.svg#light-only and foo-dark.svg#dark-only, with two rules in custom.css. imageFigureNumber.js keeps one caption per pair.
Scope
The PR now changes next only. I removed all changes to the v2.10.0 snapshot, following the no-backport rule in AGENTS.md.

PR #940 committed 72 drawio files as raw blobs, bypassing the
*.drawio filter=lfs rule in .gitattributes. This made every file
show a phantom modified state that git restore could not clear.
Renormalize them through the LFS filter; content is unchanged.
