The Bottles can not connect the internet

I install the Bottles in Kubuntu 24.04 LTS by flatpak

When I run bottles,bottles show it can`t connect the internet.

In your log there's no real error, only Connection status: offline …, and because of that Bottles can't download any runner, DXVK, etc. (No managed runners found), so nothing works.

How Bottles decides it's offline: at startup it tries to open three URLs from inside the Flatpak sandbox: https://proxy.usebottles.com/repo/components/, https://github.com and https://cloudflare.com. If none of them answers with HTTP 200 within ~10 seconds, it switches to offline mode (connection.py). So the question is why the sandbox can't reach those sites. Check these in order:

1. Test the connection from inside the sandbox

• 200 → the network works, go to step 3.
• An error such as Name or service not known / timed out → continue with step 2.

2. Check the Flatpak network permission

flatpak info --show-permissions com.usebottles.bottles | grep shared

It must contain network. If you (or a tool like Flatseal) changed permissions, reset them:

flatpak override --user --reset com.usebottles.bottles

3. Proxy / blocked sites

• If you use a proxy (set in KDE's system settings), Bottles doesn't read that setting. It only uses the http_proxy / https_proxy environment variables, so pass it to the Flatpak:

  flatpak override --user --env=https_proxy=http://HOST:PORT --env=http_proxy=http://HOST:PORT com.usebottles.bottles

• If GitHub and Cloudflare are blocked or very slow on your network/country, Bottles will always detect "offline", because the components are downloaded from GitHub too. In that case you need a proxy/VPN for Bottles (set as above).
• A VPN or firewall that only allows some applications can also block the sandbox.

4. Restart Bottles completely

Close it and run flatpak kill com.usebottles.bottles, then start it again and check the log for Connection status: online.
