Prompt Analysis

✅ Successful Prompt Patterns

• Average prompt length: ~166 words (merged)
• Fix-style prompts (failing jobs, specific errors) merge most often.
• Example: PR Add Go Fan bounded-research A/B experiment #68936 Add Go Fan bounded-research A/B experiment → Merged
• Example: PR Default optional target repository before MCP gateway startup #68882 Default optional target repository before MCP gateway startup → Merged

❌ Unsuccessful Prompt Patterns

• Average prompt length: ~200 words (closed)
• Closed PRs often include duplicates of the same task (e.g. Define optional target repository before MCP Gateway startup #68907 vs Default optional target repository before MCP gateway startup #68882 on the optional target repository) and broad feature or docs work.
• Example: PR Add outcome clustering to workflow audits #68924 Add outcome clustering to workflow audits → Closed
• Example: PR Document native-video publication blockers and publisher requirements #68727 Document native-video publication blockers and publisher requirements → Closed

Key Insights

• Length: closed-PR prompts are ~20% longer than merged ones (200 vs 166 words); conciseness helps.
• Bug fixes have the highest merge rate (88%); refactor, docs and testing are slightly lower, but their samples are small.
• File references: prompts naming specific files or paths merged 86.6% (103/119) vs 84.0% (397/475) without. The gap is small, so treat it as weak evidence.

Recommendations

1. DO: Give a concrete failure (run ID, error) for fix tasks.
2. DO: Keep prompts focused on one change and name the files involved.
3. AVOID: Launching overlapping or duplicate tasks for the same problem, and very long multi-goal prompts.

Historical Trends

Date	Merged	Closed	Success Rate
2026-10-15	500	94	84.2%
2026-10-12	472	90	84.0%

Trend: Stable at about 84%.
